Identification of a driver model incorporating sensory dynamics, with nonlinear vehicle dynamics and transient disturbances

In earlier work, a driver model incorporating sensory dynamics was identified from driving simulator experiments involving random disturbances, target paths and linear vehicle dynamics. the present paper, are extended to include transient discrete nonlinear The predictions of compared with measurements experiments. Simulator motion is found have significant beneficial effect on drivers' responses, giving faster reaction times more successful disturbance rejection path following. predicts measured responses well. suggests that drivers unable develop an accurate internal cueing filters, perceiving phase gain distortions introduced by filtering as disturbances. Drivers able account for time-varying operating point vehicle. also match behaviour experienced near friction limit tyres, however, further work necessary understand how inaccurate impedes performance less drivers. findings contribute new knowledge fields simulation cueing.
